Nikki UP2U: A dressing story
Little girls—they all have their dreams of playing dress up. Every little girl that I have encountered has taken to playing dress up as if they are already priming into the spiffy world of womanhood. That’s the weird thing about being a kid. They use the fashionably moulded shapes and perks of Barbie dolls and Bratz just so they can envision how they want their lives in the period of adolescence to be. Some kids even sleep with their paper dolls beside them, y’know. Kids.
Since playing dress up for dolls is a thing of adulthood anticipation mixed with curious innocence, the world of technology didn’t miss out on supplying the juvenile enjoyment of kids and in-denial-kids-at-heart. Pape Studio released an iOS application called Nikki UP2U that will cater to the modish desires of kids, or even mommas with three kids, who have a fondness for dressing up dolls and doll-like figures to the nines! With Nikki UP2U installed on your iOS devices, dressing the characters in the chicest trend du jour is all UP2U!
Nikki UP2U ($0.99) is an interactive dress-up game where users are free to dress Nikki and company with clothes and trends that will suit the occasions listed in the app. Nikki UP2U has a thorough display of fashionable and traditional clothes that is drawn in detailed and stylized Manga illustrations. You can change the character’s hairstyle, dress, jacket, top, bottoms, sock, shoes and even accessories. The idea is to collect enough coins to buy new outfits for each occasion.
Unlike most dress-up games in the app nation right now, Nikki UP2U provides a story that will put Anna Wintour-hopefuls hooked for hours and hours of dress-up. So, even if your wardrobe expertise doesn’t exactly scream “Vogue” and trendy, you can always repeat the occasion to perfect the art of being a million dollar stylist!
It’s All UP2U!
Instructions are very simple in Nikki UP2U. For players to get started, they need to click the task and follow the conversation between Nikki and her cat Momo so the player can have an idea of the clothes that Nikki needs to wear. Momo is a little harsh and quite hard to please that’s why players need to carefully choose the clothes that will suit the occasion best. Tap “Story” in order to view the conversation and then hit the tab that says “Ok, I’ll try it.”
Once you accepted the challenge, you’ll go back to the main menu to look for the clothes that best fit the occasion. The occasion starts simple, sometimes with Nikki just wanting a simple dress for a walk or an outfit that will be comfortable enough for shopping.
You can tap the “Closet” button to shop for a new wardrobe item. Some clothes are very cheap while some cost a thousand. When you have the outfit that you need for the occasion, you can start dressing up the character by clicking on the dress button. The gear button will allow you to see the instructions, music and the camera.
When the character is fully dressed-up and looked appropriate enough for the occasion, you can go back to Story and tap “I’m ready to go.” The app will evaluate Nikki’s outfit for the occasion. Once the evaluation is done, you can tap on the occasion again to see your letter score. If you get a B score and higher, you’ll move to the next challenge but when you fail the evaluation, you’ll have to redo that stage.
The outfit and the costumes that you will have to buy will depend on the characters’ convo. There are stages where the outfit needed is more specific like a Victorian dress for a play or a simple, breezy dress for daytime lounging beside the pool.
Unlock more stages and wardrobe choices with Nikki UP2U! The tip to getting to the next round is to play the best stylist for Nikki and please her company.
Jango is a fashion renegade!
Nikki UP2U will be loved by many kids and the millions of aging women who are changing their wardrobes (and their faces!!!) by the minute. Nikki UP2U is mainly geared towards girls because I really don’t think boys will choose this over guns and zombies.
Nikki UP2U is good for whiling your time. It has a fine, engaging value that will keep you hooked for an hour whether you are stylish or not, into fashion or just a fashion rebel. This is the app where fashion faux pas is accepted. This is the app that will unleash your inner Prada-wearing devil! This is fine. The illustrations are fine, and the comments from Momo are just downright hilarious.
I just honestly don’t think this is for everyone.
